2006 10th Anniversary Two Dollar Gold Coin
In 1996, the 2 dollar paper money was replaced by a coin. It was basically an economic move, a cost-saving strategy since coins are more equipped to withstand daily wear and tear. That was how the "Toonie" (a portmanteau of "two" and "loonie") was born.
Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the "Toonie" with this 2006 10th Anniversary Two Dollar 22K Gold Royal Canadian Mint. It comes with artwork by wildlife and landscape artist Brent Townsend and Susanna Blunt.
This special gold two dollar coin has been minted to celebrate the ten year anniversary of the two dollar coin, lovingly referred to by most Canadians as the "twoonie".
