Quebec's Provincial 25-cent coin depicts Percé Rock with its natural arch. This impressive block of limestone, is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and is one of the major tourist attractions of Quebec and Canada, as well as an important bird sanctuary.
The obverse design features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 64 years old, wearing a new crown, surrounded by the Latin inscription "ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA". This was the first effigy to be designed by a Canadian, Dora de Pédery-Hunt.
For the 125th Anniversary of Canada's Confederation, twelve new 25-cent obverses were designed (one released each month) honouring the ten provinces and two terroitories.
